Healthy, sustainable & just food systems

This month, the EAT-Lancet Commission published a follow-up to the first report from 2019. Both reports focus on healthy, sustainable and just food systems. Increased international tensions, soaring food prices, and the COVID pandemic have since exacerbated existing vulnerabilities in the food system. A plant-based diet is more necessary than ever. The planetary health diet (PHD) remains a cornerstone of the EAT-Lancet recommendations. Read the summary here. Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie) recently commissioned CE Delft consultancy to investigate how the transition to a healthier food system could be implemented. Even if supermarket products were to comply with the EAT-Lancet guidelines, substantial climate benefits could be achieved, namely a reduction of 12 megatons of greenhouse gas emissions.
