New future for a Ghent’s neighbourhood

After more than ten years Favas.net has returned to New Ghent (Nieuw Gent), a deprived neighbourhood in the city of Ghent (Belgium) – see our 2013 project. The ongoing urban renewal was explored during a short inspection. One of the outdated towers has already been replaced by a new residential building. A new park on the site of the old communal vegetable garden will be implemented soon. Ultimately, all high-rise buildings will make way for new homes. The municipality pays special attention to the people in the neighbourhood. There is still a long way to go, but at least something happens. A new future looms. During 2013 Favas.net explored urban and socio-geographic features of the high-rise housing in this area. At that time the necessary transformation of New Ghent was still far away.
